This Thanksgiving offered me a much-needed break from school. The evening right after our final, I was able to go out for dinner with my two best med school friends and my husband. Then we all went out to the local bar to meet up with more of our med school classmates. The bar was a pretty crazy seen, as everybody had been pent-up studying for weeks/months. I was a little sad to say goodbye to everybody, knowing we wouldn’t see each other for a whole week!
Nick and I spent the weekend catching up on all the time we hadn’t gotten to spend together as I was studying for finals. We went out and bought a Wii as an early Christmas present to one another. We spent several hours playing Mario Party. Sadly, Nick is much better than I am, and I only managed to beat him once.
Then I had three days at home by myself while Nick was at work. It was strange to have to so much free time all of a sudden. I watched some movies, cleaned the house, did the laundry, and cooked some really tasty meals. I miss cooking, so it was fun to do some of that. I also read The Hunger Games. It was really nice to read again. (If you couldn’t tell, reading is one of my favorite hobbies…)
Then we headed back to Nebraska for Thanksgiving. We almost didn’t go home for Thanksgiving, as Nick was initially not going to be given time off work, so we were especially thankful to get to go home this year. Our niece is 7 months old, and it was a lot of fun playing with her. We also brought the Wii home with us, so I had lots of fun beating Nick and my brother at boxing.
All-in-all it was a pretty good break…until Nick and I both got sick on Sunday. Nick didn’t get it quite as bad as I did, but I came down with a cold, which made the 7-hour drive home pretty awful. Luckily, my husband is the best and he drove the whole way! I am still feeling under the weather, but we have a pretty easy first day back, so I can get some rest in.
So thankful for seeing family…can’t wait until Christmas!
