Sorry for the long absence everyone, but as you all know, the holidays can get a little busy. Nicholas and I had what we both agree was our best Christmas to date.  He was able to take a whole week off, and we got to spend several days with both of our families.  We celebrated Nick’s 25th birthday.  We were also able to attend the wedding a dear friend from college.

Our New Year is off to a bit of a rocky start, though.  Nick is sick with a cough and a fever and the first thing I found on New Year’s Day is that our car won’t start.  Hopefully, this doesn’t set some sort of tone for the rest of the coming year!!

I have really enjoyed my Christmas vacation, but it is going much too fast.  I had hoped to do a lot of studying, but that has yet to happen.  We still need to get things with the car figured out, and I promised to make some rosettes for Nick to take to work, which will take a good part of my afternoon.

I also discovered this Christmas that being a med student makes you kind of awkward.  I used to be able to talk to people, and now I often find myself at a loss for words.  People ask about school, and I usually just end up telling them it is hard and I study a lot.  But it is so much more than that!  They ask what I’m learning, and I realize that we just finished learning about penises, and I can’t very well talk about that.  So I think, cadaver story!  But cadaver stories don’t make for very good dinner conversation.  And anything else I can talk about seems either too boring or too complicated.

I just always thought I would become cooler if I went to med school…I think in reality, you get much more dorky.  My friends and I always make these stupid jokes that only a med student would understand.  Someone in my class came up with the joke, “I have 99 problems, but tactile fremitous ain’t one of them!”…and we thought it was the funniest thing.  You would too if you were a med student…

I now understand why doctors can seem a little weird at times.  I mean, we’re all weird to begin with, but I think med school makes it worse.  Hopefully, I won’t be a dork for long, and maybe someday I’ll know how to talk to people who aren’t med students.
