The Best Birthday Gift Ever

Today was my second day of orientation, and it was even better than the first!  It could have been the fact that it was my birthday, or it could have been that I finally got to meet my cadaver.  I had no idea that we would actually get to meet our cadavers for the first time today, but it was such a wonderful surprise.  I have been looking forward to this day for months!

We split into our lab groups as soon as we got into the lab.  My group happened to be all girls.  We introduced ourselves with gloved handshakes and then stood awkwardly, looking around at what to do next.  We started to make guesses about the sex of our cadaver, agreeing that, due to its’ size, it was most likely a male.  After several minutes of awkwardness, we unzipped our bag.  The first thing I could see was belly.  A large, large belly.  Our cadaver was indeed a man.  My first thought was, I wonder what this man would’ve thought about six young women dissecting his body…  I, being overly enthusiastic, wanted to see his face, so one of my lab partners and I took a peek.  I just kept thinking, Wow…this guy donated his body to me.  Definitely the best birthday gift I have ever received!
