Finals are finally over, and I am cuddled up on the couch, finally beginning to read Catch-22 by Joseph Heller, which has been sitting on my shelf for weeks. The last two weeks were absolutely miserable, and I am fairly certain I am suffering from a mild case of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. We haven’t learned about that one yet, but I think that is what I have.
I can’t seem to get a decent night’s sleep without agonizing over questions that I know I missed on the final. I even dream about made-up questions that I can’t seem to find the answer to. Luckily, I think I managed to squeak by for another semester. We shall see…but I really don’t think I’m going to sleep in peace until I know all of my grades.
Nick and I had a nice quiet weekend at home together. We started with introductions… Hi, my name is Emily…I think I’ve seen you around a few times… But in all seriousness, I don’t think we have had a conversation that wasn’t centered around the stress of finals for about three weeks. I don’t know how that guy puts up with me….
I also don’t think we’ve had a decent meal in a month, so I have been back in the kitchen. I have been craving Indian food for a while now, so I am making a few of my favorite Indian dishes.
Other than all that, I plan to spend my spring break getting things done. This morning I went to the dentist, got my haircut, and signed our apartment lease for the upcoming year. I’m back to the dentist tomorrow to get some cavities filled. Meanwhile, I’m doing laundry and cleaning the house in anticipation of some of our friends coming to visit this weekend. Poor Jean-Ralphio (our beta fish) needs fresh water (and a new plant…I can’t seem to take care of plants these days).
Aside from a rather boring week spent doing chores, we are buying tickets to Ireland for June! I am so looking forward to a vacation and to see my brother, who lives in Limerick. June seems like a million months away, but I know the semester will go fast, and I will be in the land of my ancestors before I know it!
It isn’t a glorious week off spent on a beach or at a theme park or anything, but it really is nice to not have to study! I hope to catch up with some of my friends and family, and get a little relaxation in too. I hope that the week goes slowly…I am not looking forward to a new semester, with new classes, and new struggles. Hopefully I will recover from the last semester before it begins.
P.S. We officially said goodbye to Walter this past week. It will take some time for me to make write a proper “goodbye” blog post…so stay tuned!
