Happy Doctors’ Day

There are a lot of days in med school where I think, Why on earth did I want to be a doctor?  Today was not one of those days.  For whatever reason, today I am really glad to be a med student.

It is pretty easy to forget why I’m here.  There are days that I spend all day studying, and I end up feeling like I know less than when I started.  There are days where my brain feels like it is going to explode.  And, there are days when I just want to cry.  But occasionally, I remember that I am really, really lucky to be in med school.

A year ago I was still sitting around waiting for a seat to open up for me.  And I will never forget how wonderful it felt to get accepted.  And even though it is hard sometimes, I still want to be here, and I still want to be a doctor…for some crazy reason.

Today is National Doctors’ Day – a day to honor physicians.  I know that it is easy to get frustrated with doctors from time to time, but they really do have a hard job, and it is important to recognize the sacrifices they make to help you and your loved ones.  So, if you see a physician, make sure and tell them thanks!

(P.S.  It is okay to tell future doctors thanks, too…we don’t mind.)

  1. I love your blog! I’m currently a high school senior and I’d like to be an ophthalmologist. It’s nice to see a preview of what life is going to be like in med school

That is really awesome! I wish you well on your journey! It is definitely important to know what you are getting into. Medicine isn’t an easy field to be in these days…
